The latest research shows that exercise improves the quality and duration of your sleep. Whether it’s a bike ride, an exercise class, pilates or running a couple miles, find out what works best for you. Some people can experience sleeping difficulties if they engage in vigorous exercise in the evening. If you fall into this category, try to get your exercise in earlier in the day and limit evening exercise to lighter activities such as yoga or stretching. Ideally, try to complete your exercise regime at least 2 hours before bed.
Walking helps you sleep better and has numerous other benefits
Whatever your exercise regime, try to include at least 40 minutes of walking per day. Walking positively impacts your sleep because it’s a great stress reducer. Another side benefit is that walking improves blood-sugar, helping to ward off diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Consider taking a walk during your lunch break or after your evening meal.
