THE READINESS FOR LIFESTYLE IMPROVEMENT
Simply put, a LIFESTYLE GAP exists when people are not meeting recommended guidelines and at the same time indicate they don’t want to make any improvements.
This metric is predictive in nature and it’s also a prerequisite for longer term success. It will help you understand how likely people within your population are to achieve their health and wellbeing goals. We calculate the number of people who have GAPS and the number of people who don’t have GAPS. We call the group without gaps RENDLE READY. We analyze their current readiness for lifestyle improvement by comparing their desire to reduce stress, be healthy or feel happier with their willingness to invest in their lifestyle; specifically, if they are willing to meet the minimum recommended guidelines for sleep, exercise and nutrition. If a DESIRE is not matched by a WILLINGNESS to put in effort, success will not occur.
You can find more details about this metric below.
EXAMPLES
A LIFESTYLE GAP is either caused by UNAWARENESS (lack of education) or a lack of WILLINGNESS (aware but no interest in making improvements). Below are 3 examples:
Example 1: Imagine, a person that would like to speak French, because she thinks it’s a beautiful language. Simply liking the French language by itself is not enough to become a good speaker. Only if she is willing to study and practice frequently, will she master the French language. In summary, success can only be achieved if the desire to learn French is matched by a willingness to put in the effort to study and practice it regularly. The same concept applies to health and lifestyle.
Example 2: Think of an employee that only sleeps 4 hours a night and she indicated that she doesn’t want to make any changes to her sleep routine. This person exhibits a LIFESTYLE GAP.
Example 3: Another employee does not consume any vegetables and also indicated that he doesn’t want to make any changes to his current diet. This employee also exhibits a LIFESTYLE GAP.
Example 2 & 3 are more extreme and simplified examples to show how the metric works. Often a LIFESTYLE GAP is caused by a lack of awareness and not knowing what any of the guidelines are.
D = DESIRE
It’s important to understand the difference between DESIRE and WILLINGNESS. We first look at your population’s health goals or DESIRES. We measure the degree to which there is a DESIRE to:
Maintain good health
Lose weight
Reduce stress
Become fitter and/or
Feel happier
W = WILLINGNESS
We then see if a DESIRE is matched by a WILLINGNESS to invest in lifestyle. We measure the degree to which your population exhibits the WILLINGNESS to:
Invest adequately in lifestyle and meet minimum recommended guidelines:
Invest adequately in sleep
Invest adequately in nutrition
Invest adequately in exercise and daily physical activity
G = GAP
The percentage within your population that exhibits a LIFESTYLE GAP are:
a) Unaware they’re falling short in one or more areas of their lifestyle, and/or
b) Unwilling (or not ready yet) to make improvements to meet minimum recommended guidelines.
1 LIFESTYLE GAP
2 LIFESTYLE GAPS
3 LIFESTYLE GAPS
Our analytics will rank the lack of readiness for lifestyle improvement depending on the size of the GAP from 1 to 3, with 3 being the largest GAP.
1 LIFESTYLE GAP: NOT WILLING TO IMPROVE IN 1 AREA THEY ARE FALLING SHORT
2 LIFESTYLE GAPS: NOT WILLING TO IMPROVE IN 2 AREAS THEY ARE FALLING SHORT
3 LIFESTYLE GAPS: NOT WILLING TO IMPROVE IN 3 AREAS THEY ARE FALLING SHORT
The more GAPS, the more challenging it will be for your population to achieve any health goals. The mean and median GAP numbers provide you with additional population info. Ideally you get both those numbers as close to zero as possible.
RENDLE READy = THE FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS
Lastly, when one recognizes and understands the need to meet minimum recommended guidelines, the foundation for success is set. We call that foundation being RENDLE READY. The goal should be to get 100% of your population RENDLE READY.
We wish you and your organization true wealth.
